​PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTANCY QUALIFICATION

Our professional accountancy qualification (CTP, CPFA PQ) provides the full range of skills and competencies required for a successful tax and finance career. CTP-CPFA are working together to develop a seamless study pathway for all aspiring finance professionals working either in private or with public sector, and our two unique qualifications give you the expertise and skills you need for a key role in the fast-growing area of academy tax and financial management, where you will learn how to manage complex and specialized tax and public finance in education.
The CTP, CPFA Professional Accountancy Program is a 2-year graduate-level program on a part-time basis, leading to the Chartered Tax Practitioner and Certified Public Finance Accountant dual designation. The CTP-CPFA Professional Accountancy Program has 8 modules with examinations which individuals take on a part-time basis. After passing all 8 modules, only then the candidate can sit and pass the 2-day Strategic Final Examinations. (65% minimum grade average pass per module/course/exam is a must)
The candidates for the CTP, CPFA dual designation are required to complete 36 months of applied work experience at a senior managerial level either in taxation, Public Finance Management or accountancy prior to getting there CTP, CPFA dual designation.
Once qualified, trainees will be awarded the globally recognized CTP, CPFA (Chartered Tax Practitioner and Certified Public Finance Accountant) dual designation and gaining the status as a multi-skilled tax and finance professional, for both the public and corporate sectors.
Ongoing Professional Developments are mandatory and monitored by CTP-CPFA Canada for the full members of CTP-CPFA Canada with Chartered Tax Practitioner and Certified Public Finance Accountant (CTP, CPFA) dual professional designation.

ENTRY ROUTES
There are various entry routes to the CTP, CPFA PQ dual designation certification, designed to suit fully qualified accountants, graduates, and senior professionals with over ten years of senior managerial, taxation and public finance experience.
FULLY QUALIFIED ACCOUNTANTS

For members of other Professional Bodies (IFAC member bodies), becoming CTP, CPFA qualified is simple: you will need to sit and pass 2-day Strategic Final Examination unless MRA/MOU has been signed with the PAO.
​
To apply under the MRA/MOU, the candidate must be a member of a PAO in good standing with over 5 years of relevant post qualification either in private or public sector work experience at senior managerial level.
GRADUATES
To be eligible for entry into the PQ program, all graduates must get at least a bachelor’s degree with 120 credits either in commerce, business administration, taxation or accountancy.
Complete the Professional Qualification Certification program and 36 months of practical experience requirements in relevant tax, accounting or public finance positions.
Those with a relevant tax, finance or accountancy related degree will be granted exemptions.
SENIOR PROFESSIONALS
Senior tax and accountancy professionals with over 10 years of post-qualification experience, who do not currently hold a professional accountancy qualification, can take advantage of the accelerated/exemption route to the Professional Qualification by passing 2-day Strategic Final Examination.
Exemptions are granted on paper-by-paper basis. An exemption will not be awarded if you have previously attempted an examination for a subject and have not been successful. Academic qualifications will not be considered if they were obtained more than 10 years ago.

COMPETENCY BASED ASSESSMENT
Senior tax and accountancy professionals with over 10 years of post-qualification experience, who do not currently hold a professional accountancy qualification, can also take advantage of the competency-based assessment/exemption route to the Professional Qualification upon approval by the CTP-CPFA Canada Registration Committee.
The competency-based assessment evaluates your skills against competencies required at a senior managerial level to practice in Canada. You are required to demonstrate to the Registration Committee how you meet the competence requirements of a CTP-CPFA as they are today.
You have to put together a worksheet regarding the knowledge areas to show equivalency to the CTP-CPFA courses and provide educational info or relevant examples (as specific as possible) from your work experience that can be validated, if required, by the registration committee.

MODES OF STUDY

CTP-CPFA Canada students can choose from one of the three study modes: face-to-face, web class and self-study. We offer a supportive and extensive training provision through our qualified tutors, who use their specialized knowledge to deliver high quality training within taxation and public sector context.
Our virtual learning environment enables trainees to learn face-to-face and through live web classes – offering flexibility, convenience and an integrated learning experience to keep up with this new, technology-rich era of business.

ACCESS TO CTP, CPFA Learning, Enrolment and Course Materials
Course enrolments open on our website, and students who are new to CTP, CPFA dual designation professional certification will need to register on the CTP, CPFA website to create a MyCTP-CPFA account, prior to enrolment. Returning students simply need to login to MyCTP-CPFA as usual.
Course materials will be posted and delivered to all students upon receipt of course enrolments. Course materials are not sold separately without purchasing a CTP-CPFA course. Students are required to register for a MyCTP-CPFA account to access CTP, CPFA Learning Materials.

CTP-CPFA Canada annual membership fees are due on January 1 of each year. Notices are sent to members in December to advise them to renew for the year ahead.
